What is Farmer’s Delight?
From delicious roasts to comforting cooked rice, Farmer’s Delight is the cream of the crop when it comes to making feasts for your friends (and yourselves!) Just make sure that you keep your dietary restrictions in mind! With new ways of farming and cooking, it brings some real world culinary tactics to minecraft…no more just smoking your meat here!
Getting Started
The Kitchen
Speaking of the kitchen, there are some new stations and items used to create your culinary cuisine! Those being the knife, the stove, the skillet, the cooking pot and the cutting board. All of these will be necessary to make some of the dishes in Farmer’s Delight.
The Knife
To get started with Farmer’s Delight, you might want to make a knife. This generally takes a stick and a piece of flint…but the quality of the knife itself can go all the way up to netherite and beyond. Knives can be enchanted with a lot of the same enchantments as your swords…and can be used in combat but, well, it might be best to use them in the kitchen.
The Stove
The stove by itself will not have any cooking ability, you will need to craft the cooking pot and place it upon the stove in order to start making food. You make the stove with a campfire, four brick blocks and three iron.
The Skillet
The skillet is a handy little tool that you can use in your hand to cook! This will take four iron and a single brick to make. If you hold raw meat in your off hand and the skillet in your main hand, you will be able to cook as if you had the meat in a smoker or furnace. You will need to hold down the right mouse button until the meat has finished cooking. Alternatively, you can sneak place the skillet on a heat source such as a stove or campfire and place the meat inside for it to cook automatically. You can also use this pan as a blunt force trauma weapon! Frying pans…who knew?
The Cooking Pot
The cooking pot on its own will not cook, however, once it is placed upon the stove you will be able to put ingredients in the pot to create feasts beyond imagining! You will need to place a bowl (or in one case a pumpkin!) in the single space next to the ladle. In order to make the cooking pot, you will need two bricks, a wooden shovel, a bucket of water and five iron.
The Cutting Board
Some things need to be chopped up before they can be used. Such as different types of meat, dough or vegetables like rice! You will need the knife to cut these. Simply place the item on the cutting board and use the knife on the cutting board to get the material. You can make this with four planks and two sticks.
Items you can cut with the cutting board and what they make
- Amethyst (requires pickaxe, gives amethyst shards)
- Signs (requires axe, gives planks)
- Doors (requires axe, gives planks)
- Saddle (requires shears, gives leather and iron nugget)
- Leather armor/horse armor (requires shears, gives leather)
- Stone/Deepslate (requires pickaxe, gives cobbled variants)
- Bricks (requires pickaxe, gives individual brick)
- Quartz (requires pickaxe, gives quartz crystal)
- Gravel (requires shovel, gives gravel and flint)
- Clay (requires shovel, gives 4 clay balls)
- Cake/pie (requires knife, gives cake/pie slice)
- Mutton/Beef/Pork chop/smoked ham/Chicken/Salmon/Cod (requires knife, gives mutton chops/hamburger patty/bacon/cooked porkchop/chicken cutlet/salmon slice/cod slice and bonemeal)
- Corn/wild potato/wild cabbage/wild carrot/wild beets/wild onions/wild tomatoes (requires knife, gives seeds and in some cases dye)
- Flowers (requires knifes, gives respective colored dyes)
Cheese
Cheese wheels are made in the cooking pot with three buckets of milk and three mushrooms. This will give you one raw cheese wheel which you place down and wait for it to ferment into a cheese wheel. Once the cheese wheel has been matured, simply take your knife and slice off a piece to get a cheese slice! Like a cake, it will have a few limited uses before you’ll have to make another one.
Pickles
Pickles are a tricky thing. Normally, you aren’t able to make them without having the mod Brewin’ and Chewin’ due to you needing to ferment the cucumbers or sea pickles to make them. Here on SheWolf’s Origins, we created a datapack that allows us to have our favorite sour snack without going to the moderators and pestering them to spawn some in or going to our quest system to turn the items in for it. To make pickles, simply put in a cucumber, a sea pickle and a glowstone into the cooking pot and you’ll get two pickles!
Pet Food
- Dog Food-Dog food needs a piece of rotten flesh, a piece of bone meal, a piece of rice and any piece of raw chicken/chicken cutlet/raw mutton/mutton chops or raw rabbit. This, when fed to your dog gives your furry companion speed, strength and resistance for 5 minutes.
- Horse Feed- Horse feed needs a hay or rice bale, two apples and a golden carrot. When fed to your noble steed, this will give them speed II and jump boost for 5 minutes.
Farming
Farming has also got a bit of an upgrade! There are a few new mechanics such as rich soil that will make it so your crops grow faster and better than ever as well as many new plants for you to seed the garden with!
Rich Soil
Rich Soil and Rich Farmland is a new block which enables plants to grow faster than they would on regular farmland. To make this, you need two pieces of straw, a block of dirt, two rotten flesh and four bonemeal. Alternatively you can have the block of dirt, two straw, two bonemeal and four tree bark. This will give you compost.
To make rich soil you will need to place the compost near water and have some patience. After a few in game days, the compost will become rich soil. To speed this up, you can put podzol near the compost blocks or put mushrooms on the block as well. Once you have rich soil, you are ready to start planting your farm!
Straw
Straw is made by cutting wheat (This will give you seeds, wheat and straw) or grass while it’s growing with a knife. You can also get straw by cutting rice panicles on the cutting board (this will also give you rice).
Tree Bark
Tree Bark is obtained by using an axe on a log via the cutting board. This will give you a stripped log and the bark!
Mushroom Colonies
Mushroom colonies can be made by putting brown or red mushrooms on rich soil. Once left for a few days, they will start to grow into a colony. They will need to be in a low level light area in order to grow faster. Once the colony is fully grown, you will be able to harvest it with shears or harvest the entire colony with silk touched shears.
